it was a time that I also stopped using FB cuz I was tired of virtual life and needed real life!:) I didn't use FB for 3-4 weeks but later came back again. The reason was that I came to a conclusion that there are lots of news and stories we need to share or need to be informed. And online resources especially FB is a good tool for it. As for me, I use FB as a news source. Cuz almost all the people comment the issues and stories via FB.

I hope you'll be back to FB-among you friends soon! :)

I think it depends very much on how you use Facebook. Like Nargiz pointed out, it can and is being used as a tool for activism, spreading news, networking.

So far, all the articles I've read about people who stop using FB are people who did not use it (or at least that's the impression I got) for such more serious or more focused purposes, they only used it to connect with friends for fun, do all those silly tests and things like that. I think that use with some sort of a strategy and with certain boundaries in mind (how much time do you want to spend on it? what do and what don't you want to share, etc.), FB can be used as a powerful tool to connect and spread information. But those boundaries go for any kind of online presence, really, whether it's Twitter, a blog or FB. In the end it all depends on how you use it.

That being said, I hope you decide to return to FB, Ali!

Well, you are a braver man than I. I quit too, about a year ago, when I realised that my real life was starting to feel like I was just collecting material for my cyber life. But I think the way you and a lot of Azeri activists use it, for spreading news and really valuable networking, shows the good side of the internet, surely?
