An interesting thing I stumbled upon while reading Radio Azadliq - according to the now defunct Main Plan of Baku compiled in 1986, there would be six new cities around Baku for 2005 - Dubandi, Turkan, Hovsan, Zabrat, Alat and Badamdar. However, for now, 2009, Baku has been inflated and extended in a chaotic way almost to all western Absheron Peninsula; and instead of those six cities, there is another one - Khyrdalan. We can't even define where the boundaries of Baku starts and ends.
Another interesting thing to know - officially Baku has an area of 213,000 hectares, and 85% of its citizens live only on 22,000 hectares of this land.
