Herostratus, burn the archives!

Recently, two leading Azeri discussion groups – Azerbaijani Students International and Azerbaijan-EU were closed down by their owners. No reasons were given except for vague phrases about “accomplishing their goals”.

When I read the message announcing the dissolution of AzeriSI, I even laughed. I thought it was a parody and joke to Irali's dissolution. It was repeating almost complete phrases from Irali's declaration of dissolution. I thought what a cute guy this group owner was. What a good political satire :)). Maurice Joly rediscovered! I even changed my opinion about him for a while (because I remember that a few years ago he moderated some my innocent messages).

However, Devil told me to check group's address. And I checked. I was not shocked though. I just thought that... and I only thought that ... what a pity that group's archive perished.

Archive of every notable and old Azeri discussion list is a small chronicle of the contemporary history of Azerbaijan. Looking through these archives you can reconstruct a full social history of our nation. Not only those bold facts on books, but the attitudes and debates in the society, plus all those imponderability of our life, that aren’t and won’t be included in any research, history book or an academic paper.

What a pity that groups' archives perished.

Azerbaijan-EU eventually, re-established itself. Their new description says:

Under a new management, this group re-establishes deleted Azerbaycan-EU yahoogroup and is open to everyone formerly united under this name. This group is open to anyone who sees Azerbaijan's future with European integration.
