This year, at last, Azerbaijan made its debut in Eurovision, thus becoming last Caucasian country after Armenia (2006) and Georgia (2007) to join this famed song contest. Azerbaijan is represented by Elnur & Samir with a song by Govhar Hasan-zadeh and Zahra Badalbeyli. Elnur performs the role of an angel and Samir of a devil and the theme of their duet is the eternal struggle of Good and Evil. But at the end of the performance, through the persuasion of the angel (Elnur) the devil (Samir) undergoes a transformation and becomes an angel himself. This transformation is marked by Samir's singing a piece of Mugham, traditional Azeri music and changing his clothes from black to white.
Two days before in the semi-final Azerbaijan was shortlisted and so we are going to continue our Eurovision 2008 adventures! Although Elnur and Samir couldn't do their best (because they were greatly excited), it seems that our debut was pretty successful, (and it gave a rise to some speculations about our performance being homoerotic! )
BTW, thanks to everyone in Europe who voted for us, and please go voting for Azerbaijan in the final also, if you like our song! We are the champions!

Hi, if ever there was a debut in Eurovision from a country that makes people sit up and take notice it was this. Totally over-the-top, but totally fantastic too. Been playing the video constantly for the past two days. For someone who never has paid any interest in Eurovision, things suddenly became interesting. Awesome.
"and it gave a rise to some speculations about our performance being homoerotic!"
It was only them doing well gave rise to that notion?? Haha isn't it apparent from the very beginning??
