In November 2006, to mark the centenary of the American Political Science Review the American Political Science Assosiation prepared a special issue of the above-mentioned Review dedicated to the history and evolution of the political science. Supplemented with an introduction, an essay "The Coevolution of American Political Science and the American Political Science Review," and a set of brief commentaries on the 20 most frequently-cited articles in the history of the Review, the November 2006 issue of APSR consisted of 24 essays, written by prominent political scientists and covering various aspects of the evolution of the political science. For today, this issue is available online and free of charge (but, of course, copyrighted). You can read or download this brilliant volume and get acquainted with the long way through which the modern political science evolved and arrived at where now it is.
The whole issue is available here, in the website of the American Political Science Association. Good reading!
